I'm really going to show my age here, but when I was a teenager, the Soaps and Serials books were released. These books told the stories of the popular soap operas from their beginning. My personal favorite was the ones from Guiding Light which was my after school obcession. I don't know what made me think of them, but a quick check on Amazon and there they were...for a penny.
