Titanic Grand Staircase: Tragic Symbolism?

Titanic...Just the mere mention of the name evokes a sense of destiny. For me, someone that remembers when Titanic was as much a mystery as a tragedy, there is one symbol that represents the fleeting moment in history that Titanic and her passengers occupied...The Grand Staircase.

I don't know why The Grand Staircase and its clock because so symbolic to me. Maybe it was the black and white photographs that just show the staircase empty or maybe it was that clock and knowing that it marked the final hours in the lives of so many. Whatever the reason, The Grand Staircase came to represent in my mind everything that Titanic stood for: Luxury, arrogance, and loss.

I was apparently not the only one to feel that The Grand Staircase was somehow symbolic of the tragedy as it was featured heavily in James Cameron's movie during the final scenes when Jack and Rose are reunited.

Is there a particular room or feature of Titanic that holds a special fascination for you?

Don't forget that my upcoming novel, Lost to Titanic (Reincarnation Romance Chronicles), releases March 8th and for a limited time, includes two bonus novels.

Before Titanic Was Found...

For most people, Titanic has always been that wreck melting into the ocean floor. They remember only the two pieces of wreckage and the beauty of the ship created in the movie. For me, born twelve years before the discovery of the wreck, Titanic was always something more. It was always a romantic, tragic mystery that for the longest time remained unsolved.

Long before James Cammeron brought Titanic to life on the big screen, I learned about Titanic on television. Before the wreck was discovered, the sinking was featured on the same shows that did stories on Big Foot, the Bermuda Triangle, and Area 51. It was like Titanic just disappeared. I think that made people love it even more.

Every April, those television programs would seek out survivors and recount their stories. I can still hear Frank Prentice, Eva Hart, Edith Brown, Ruth Becker, and Edith Rosenbaum telling their stories and it still gives me chills.

I guess it is no wonder that years later, I would create my own version of the disaster in one of my novels, though no work of fiction can compare to the horror the passengers must have faced in those final moments or the tragic memories that would haunt the survivors for a lifetime.

Final Tease for Hood's Heart *Super Hot*

2/7/2016

Picture
Okay, this is it, the final tease before the release of Hood's Heart. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to release this part, but it sort of hints at the big elephant in the room...As well as it's just hot as hell.

“You are delicious,” he mumbled against me, sending vibrations down to the most forbidden parts of me.

I opened my eyes, seeing the lights of the London street below. It was so unreal, standing naked before that large window with Jaxon’s hands on my body.

I watched our reflections in the glass, the way his hands teased me. I could see the flush of excitement in my cheeks as his fingers found my moist cave again.

Jaxon played my body like an instrument, circling my nerve endings until I was almost there and then pulling back. My legs were growing weak; I wasn’t sure how much more I could take.

Just when I was about to beg for mercy, he spun me about and lifted me into his arms. He carried me across the room and laid me down on his bed.

He pulled his shirt over his head, revealing sculpted abs that looked taunt over his lean frame. He unfastened his pants and stood shamelessly naked before me.

I waited for sweet words, but even in his silence, my legs parted to welcome him under the gaze of his green eyes. That movement seemed to be his undoing. He fell on top of me, his manhood sliding up into me easily.

I rocked against him, driving him deeper. Jaxon bit at my shoulder and smothered a groan. He pressed into me, filling me, and sending me immediately over the edge.

“Yes,” I moaned as his fingers dug into my hips, “Yes.”

He toyed with me, bringing me to the cusp and then moving slow and kissing me deep until that last shattering time I couldn’t hold back anymore.

“Oh God...Oh God...”

My climax urged him on and moments later, he thrusted into me one last time and shuddered.

I lay next to Jaxon, my head in the crook of his arm, looking up at the light over the bed. It looked like a weird ball of twine, but the light shining through turned the room into a forest with twisting branches overhead.

“What’s the story with the light?” I asked as I cuddled closer to his warm body.

Jaxon kissed my temple, “I ordered it when I moved in. I don’t know why, but I saw it in a catalog and I just had to get it... I can’t explain it.”

I looked up at the shadows on the ceiling, remembering the branches overhead as Robin and Marian made love.

“No,” I said with a smile. “I like it.”

He covered his eyes with his arm, “No, it’s weird.”

“No,” I said as I reached over and stroked his face. “I get it.”

You have no idea how much I get it...

Somehow the real me knew it was him even though I couldn’t see his face. I knew that black head of hair that dripped of water. I knew those broad shoulders and muscled back.

Robin...

As if I’d spoken his name, he turned slightly. I was still unable to see his face, but the sound of his voice settled somewhere in the pit of my stomach and stirred there.

“Is that you Marian?” He teased.

“Yes,” I said as I looked away, embarrassed that he had caught me watching him bathe.

I could hear him moving through the water and then stepping up onto the shore. I felt the coolness of the water on him even before he stood over me blocking out the sun.

“Marian?”

The sound of my name upon his lips tore at my heart.

“Yes Milord?” I answered in a weak whisper.

“Are you afraid of me?”

“No Milord,” I said with a blush. How could I explain what I was feeling? How could I tell him that the world turned sideways every time he said my name?

“Then why will you not look at me?” He asked, moving close enough I could feel his breath on my cheek.

“Because you are naked Milord.”

“Why do you do that?” He asked as he reached out and took my hand, measuring it against his own. “Why do you address me in that way?”

I turned and looked up at him, his face shadowed in the sunset. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came.

Robin clasped my hand in his and held it to his chest. “Marian, you have no reason to be afraid of me.”
“I’m not afraid of you,” I lied, forcing myself not to look down.

He lifted my hand to his lips and kissed each individual finger. “I owe you my life for helping me escape the castle and healing my shoulder, but my life would have been yours no matter what the outcome of that first night.”
“I don’t understand.”

“I knew from the first moment I saw you, that I would love you until the day I die. It didn’t matter if it was that night or a thousand nights away.”

My heart lurched at his words. I couldn’t speak. I could feel the tears building behind my eyes as he brought my hand back down to his heart.

Robin’s lips touched my forehead in a gentle kiss, but I could feel the frantic beat of his heart under my fingers resting on his chest.

“Marian,” he whispered against my skin. “I have nothing to offer you in lands or position, but I promise you my very soul until the end of time.”

I shook my head, “You know nothing of me.”

“I know that you are good,” he said, “too good to let an innocent man die, too good to sell yourself in marriage to Prince John, and too good to lose that fire in your soul that made you escape into the forest.”

“Robin I—”

“Please,” he whispered as he lowered his face into my hair. “I give you my heart, my life, my very soul.”

The flight attendant moved down the aisle, the wheel of her snack cart squeaking loudly. She seemed grandmotherly, nowhere near old enough for retirement, but still wearing a lifetime’s worth of wisdom on her face.

“Would you care for a soda?” She asked when she reached me.

“A bottled water if you have it,” I said with a forced smile.

I took the bottle she offered and thanked her, but I could feel her staring at me. I was about to ask her what her problem was when I felt her pat my shoulder gently.

Looking up, I saw the pity in her eyes as she smiled down at me.

“Don’t worry,” she said as she furrowed her brow slightly. “He’ll get what’s coming to him.”

She said nothing else. She gave me one more pat on the arm and then continued down the aisle. On her way back though, she gave me another encouraging smile.

“Keep your chin up,” she said with a wink.

I nodded and gave her my best “trying to be brave” smile even though it was all a lie. I almost wish Nick had hit me on purpose. At least then I could be legitimately mad at him. As it was, the longer I was gone, the more ridiculous I felt.

I turned toward the side of the plane and closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep before I had the chance to think much about what I was doing.

At first, my mind was spinning, my heart seemed too big for my chest, and I couldn’t seem to catch my breath. I squeezed my eyes shut tighter and tried to focus on just slowly breathing in and out until I could feel sleep taking me.
It was a strange thing, allowing myself to fall into dreams while surrounded by strangers. I felt myself sliding away from reality and into the nothing of dreams. I floated there, waiting, until everything shifted and I could make out the familiar scene.

I could still hear the vibrating roar of the plane, but in my mind’s eye, I was laying by a warm fire underneath a star-filled sky. I stretched, feeling the cool earth just beyond the pallet upon which I was laying. I was warm and I was content.

The forest surrounded me, spreading branches out to embrace me and keep my secrets. I felt like I was part of it, a wild creature that couldn’t be tamed.

A hand came from behind to rest on my hip as lips were pressed against my shoulder. I knew this touch, it was a familiar touch, and it was the recognizable touch from hundreds of dreams over the years.

It was him...My faceless lover from so many dreams...Always in the shadows, but always there.

I turned to him, welcoming his lips on mine. He kissed me deeply and completely. I moaned as his lips traveled to my neck, sucking at the hollows of my throat. I brushed my mouth across his shoulder, savoring the smoky taste of his skin.

His hands were on me, sliding up my sides and over my breasts. I felt his lips at my collarbone, his dark hair brushing against my skin.

Yes...Yes...

I tangled my fingers in his hair, twisting the long strands until his groan rumbled against me.

I need you...I need you...

His lips were over mine again, the weight of his body pressing down on me. My legs parted and I lifted my hips, arching against him.

Please...Please...
