Drunken Gummy Bears...Why Am I just Now Learning About These?

Okay, I confess, I spend way too much time in my writing cave. My idea of a wild night is writing a sex scene while drinking some Barefoot Moscato, but I might just have found a new favorite treat...Drunken Gummy Bears!

Anyone that reads my blog knows that I love me some Gummy Bears. They are the perfect reading, writing, editing, marketing snack. And now they are drunk!

I was actually searching for some great book snacks because to say that all of my book adventures are fueled by either coffee, sweet tea, or wine depending on the time of day is not the type of impression you want to give. So there I was, searching for something more acceptable (because you know I try not to frighten the normal people) and I came across Drunken Gummy Bears. Well out goes the idea of acceptable snacks and bring on those drunk little bears!

For this yummy treat you just take Gummy Bears and place them in a bowl and cover them with vodka. Cover the bowl and place in fridge for a week. Even I can do that. I think I have found a new favorite book snack!

What If Life Was More Like Books...

I'm a huge Neil Patrick Harris fan, so stuff about him always comes up in my YouTube suggestions. This morning it was his Tony awards opening number "If Life Was More Like Theatre" from a few years ago. For some reason this got me to thinking...What if life was more like books?

Picture
1. Every day would start with some version of "Once upon a time..."

2. The weather would always fit your mood or the situation

3. You would never get stuck in traffic, wait in line, or any other inconvenient thing...Unless it guided you to a major plot point.

4. All the boring parts would already be omitted.

5. You would always look good, even when crying, stuck in the rain, or just waking up.

6. No morning breath, or bed head.

7. You could fall in love in the span of 10 pages.

8. You would be guaranteed adventure.

9. And you almost always get your happily ever after.

My inspiration comes from several places, but in my current work in progress, my overall inspiration is the idea that when people are faced with a crisis, some can come through it stronger while others just give up.

A Week of Writer's Block, Flinging Poo at the Keyboard, and A Quick Question

It has been a crazy week. I've battled a sinus infection, a terrible case of writer's block, and more days than not I've felt as though I was just flinging poo at the keyboard as opposed to writing anything useful. Don't you hate days like that?

Well, I think I've figured things out in my current work in progress...Of course it's nothing like what I first planned, but the characters took the story in another direction. I think every writer loves the moment a story springs to life and takes on a mind of its own, but that same moment strikes fear into your soul in the way a non-writer could never understand.

So, now that the characters are coming to life, more of them are wanting to have their say. Which brings me to the purpose of this post...

My New Favorite Paranormal Romance Series? A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

11/7/2014

I'm always on the lookout for a new paranormal romance series. I'm sort of picky. I want a book with a plot, something I can really dive into that keeps me turning the page. Sadly, it's been a while since I found something that I really liked, but over fall break I discovered a real gem!

Most of you that follow my blog know that I rarely write reviews. I don't like to break a book down and analyze the plot and characters. I admire people that can, but it ruins the magic of the story for me. With that in mind, I am now totally in love with the A Shade of Vampire series by Bella Forrest! The author creates an entire world with a history, traditions, and characters that suck you in. One thing I look for in paranormal novels is the author's ability to create a believable society and Bella Forrest does it very well.

I read the first five books in the series over fall break. I've been slower finishing the series, but only because I forced myself to slow down to savor the story more. If you're looking for a great series to dive into this winter, I highly recommend A Shade of Vampire.

A Shade of Vampire (A Shade of Vampire #1)

Picture
On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.

A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.

She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.

Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.

Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.

Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

A Shade of Blood (A Shade of Vampire #2)

In A Shade Of Blood, Bella Forrest transports you deeper into a unique, enthralling and beautifully sensitive story. Prepare to be lost in its pages…

When Sofia Claremont was kidnapped to a sunless island, uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet, she believed she’d forever be a captive of its dark ruler, Derek Novak.

Now, after months of surviving an endless night, the morning sun may soon rise again for Sofia. Something has possessed Derek’s heart and he offers her a gift no human slave has ever been given in the history of his cursed island: escape.

High school, prom and a chance to move on with her life now await her.

But will she be able to forget the horrors that steal her sleep away at night? … and the feelings that haunt her for that tormented prince of darkness?

A Castle of Sand (A Shade of Vampire #3)

Picture
What Sofia has with Derek feels like a sandcastle; temporary and something that the waves of life and time will soon ruin...

Since the return of Gregor Novak, the island has turned several shades darker. His hatred toward Sofia and thirst for fresh blood lead to a brutal war igniting between father and son.

Meanwhile, the hunters are gaining formidable strength and resources by the day; they know that the safety of The Shade hangs entirely on its ability to remain hidden from them.

And a sinister secret lies in wait for Sofia within the bowels of an Egyptian desert... a secret that threatens to crush her sandcastle much sooner than she could have expected.

A Shadow of Light (A Shade of Vampire #4)

Picture
Since the implosion at The Oasis and Derek's stay at Hawk Headquarters, The Shade has fallen into a state of utter chaos. To make matters worse, the citizens of Derek's kingdom have become suspicious of his loyalties and accuse him of siding with the enemy... At a time when Derek desperately needs full cooperation from his subjects, they wish to put their own King on trial.

Meanwhile, Sofia is being held hostage by the hunters. They are determined to rid her of her infatuation with the vampire. She submits to the strict routine and training they impose on her, but the only fuel that keeps her going is the thought of reuniting with Derek - something Reuben is fighting with every fiber of his being to ensure will never happen.

...Until one day, out of the blue, Reuben appears to have a change of heart and comes to Sofia with a proposal; a solution that she never dreamed possible. A solution that would fulfil her heart's deepest desires and secure her and Derek's future together, forever.

But can she really trust this man who is so renowned for his hatred of vampires? Does she even have a choice?

A Blaze of Sun (A Shade of Vampire #5)

Picture
Welcome back to The Shade...

"Of course you know who I am. I'm a daughter of the darkness just as surely as you are his son..."

Ever since his brief encounter with Emilia at The Shade, Derek's thoughts and dreams have been haunted with images of the mysterious, beautiful brunette. Plagued with guilt, he struggles to understand why he is so drawn to this dark stranger from his past.

When Emilia suddenly appears again on the island, Derek is both terrified and intrigued. But this time, he is determined to involve Sofia and discover who this woman is.

If only Derek and Sofia knew, Emilia is a mystery that should be left undiscovered...

A Gate of Night (A Shade of Vampire #6)

Picture
Welcome back to The Shade...

Derek and Sofia are finally enjoying a well-deserved break. Staying at a resort with good food, sun and sea, Sofia is thrilled to witness Derek’s re-introduction to the human world.

They would almost be mistaken for a normal young couple, if it were not for the red-eyed monster lurking in the shadows and watching their every move, waiting for his signal to pounce…

A Break of Day (A Shade of Vampire #7)

Picture
The greatly anticipated conclusion to Derek and Sofia's journey!

Everything Sofia believed to be true has crumbled before her very eyes...

In this explosive finale, secrets will be revealed, loyalties tested and trust broken.

Are you ready to return to The Shade?

A Shade of Kiev (A Shade of Vampire #8)

Picture
My name is Kiev Novalic. I am a vampire, and a murderer.

Having betrayed the trust of my own kind and that of the enemies I sold myself to, I have three days left to live.

I stare at the girl in the cell opposite mine. Mona, she calls herself. A witch born without magic.

She might be my key to freedom, but I should know to stay away.

I should know: some scars are etched too deep to heal.
