She looked up, just a brief flash of her darkened eyes and pale face before she looked away again.
"I haven't decided yet," she whispered.
Pulling a chair around again, I sat across from her. "I can't help you if you won't talk to me."
"It's too late to help me."
Patients often said such statements, but she seemed more resigned to the idea.
