Well, it's official. I have lost my mind. In the past few days, while watching style tips on You Tube, Kim and Kourtney Take New York, and All About Eve, I manage to write the first 5,000 words of the new book.
I'm using a little bit of a different technique for this story. I decided that I'm going to write the whole thing out long hand first. I don't know why, but that creates an instant intimacy between me and the story. The first novel I ever wrote, I used this technique and to this day I still think it's the best book I have ever written.
Just to make things even more interesting, I'm trying out another technique that I used on that first book long ago. Instead of writing this in a chronological way, I write whatever scene is inspiring me at that moment. This helps me really dive into the book. Once I write all the scenes hanging out in my brain, I go back and fill in the holes, edit, and rewrite as I type it into the computer.
Not bragging, but I think this next book will be much more successful than the other two. The few people who have been told the entire story idea are impressed, mentioning small details nearly everyday. They have never had this reaction to any of my other work, that really encourages me. It's like they can't get the story out of their head!
So in recap, I have written the first 5,000 words of the new book. I wrote it in long hand to help me dive into the work more. I'm using a method of writing where I write whatever scene is hanging out in my brain on that day. Also, I'm about 90% settled on a title. So I'll probably have a trailer up before too long once I get a feel for how long this is going to take to write.

It's official! The paperback edition on Ghost Country is now available. This is a little different than when Home Decorating for the Real World was released in that Ghost Country will be available in bookstores across the country. So any store that orders books through a national supplier will be able to order the novel. Mark that one off my bucket list!
I still have to fight the urge to pinch myself when I think about all that has happened in the past few months. How many people are lucky enough to be able to say that they are living their dream? Not many.
Anyway, going back to work on the new novel. I'll post some first chapter drafts as soon as they are done.
Wow! This is going to be a busy week. First off, let me just say that the new book is coming together slowly, but surely. I'm still in the planning and outlining stage and that's okay because it honestly is my favorite part. It is in these first few weeks that anything is possible and the story can take whatever direction I want because there are no limits to character yet. It's a very exciting time for me.

I'm not one to sit back and do nothing. Even when I'm relaxing, I'm always thinking about my next project. Well, thanks to a very creepy dream, I've got a new idea.
This will be quite a stretch for me as it is completely opposite of what I normally do. So for my next book I will be stepping away from literary fiction and delving into paranormal romance.
Now before everyone starts yelping, I'm in no way talking about anything like Twilight. That is something that I will leave to the teen girls to read again and again. I can honestly say that I've only read a few pages of Twilight and then left it on the store shelf. Not that it isn't well written for what it is, but I prefer Anne Rice and her vampires. I couldn't get past the idea of an immortal attending high school. How bad would that make eternity suck?
No, mine will be more about a restless spirit. What this spirit will do remains to be seen, but after so much serious work with the decorating book and then Ghost Country, I'm ready to just have a little fun with writing and characters. Wish me luck since as of yet I have no title, characters without names, and a very sketchy plot. This may become a story that will never see the light of day.
Big news! In the next few days, Ghost Country: A Novel will be going up for sale at BN.com for the Barnes & Noble Nook. This is a big step as now the novel will be available on both Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, the two big powerhouses for book sales.

Also, new ideas sneaking around regarding a new book. I'm thinking about possibly a paranormal romance, but you'll have to wait and see.
Well, I took last weekend off to spend some time with my biggest fan while the free download promotion at Smashwords.com was winding down. I still can't believe the reaction!
In the upcoming weeks, Ghost Country will be appearing in Kindle Nation. Hopefully that will get the word out a little more.
Again, after spending so much time in the past six months with my writing (Home Decorating for the Real World in November and Ghost Country in December), I am treating my family to some much deserved family time. You know, no matter what you do, your first priority should always be your family. Success is nothing without them.
Well, the first proofs came in and with a few minor changes I think we'll have the paperback of Ghost Country available within a few weeks. I'm so pleased with the progress and the responses I'm getting from early readings!
The kindle version of Ghost Country will be featured in an edition of Kindle Nation blog in the upcoming weeks. That is very exciting and I can't wait to hear some feedback!
